Family History in Aldbourne

Interest in Family History has grown out of all recognition in the past ten years. It is no longer a pursuit for aristocratic families, nor even for those whose family traditions lead them to believe that they were once aristocratic. Nowadays people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe are searching for their roots, and those roots are just as interesting and important when they sprout from humble labouring stock as when they derive from more elevated strata of society.

The Dabchick, the village library and my own Aldbourne OPC site are receiving increasing numbers of enquiries from all four corners of the globe from people tracing their Dabchick ancestors, and it's time that interest was reflected in this Community site by more than just a Discussion Forum.

This section will be a growing repository of Family History resources and links for Aldbourne, together with stories and photographs and other data of interest to those with roots in the village. Hopefully they will be interesting to others as well.

Sections planned for the site so far include:

Questions A selection of questions which visitors have asked about Aldbourne Family History, and my attempts to answer them. Here you will also find an enquiry form to as for advice.
Memories A selection of pictures or stories related to Aldbourne's family history; either submitted by visitors to the website or snippets I have found during my researches.
Families Online trees for some of the Aldbourne Families that I have managed to reconstruct from the registers and other data.
Documents A selection of documents and other data about Aldbourne that I have found and transcribed during my researches.
Maps Eventually this will contain an interactive version of the 1839 Tithe Apportionment Map and data gleaned from censuses and other resources.
Resources Links to external repositories of Aldbourne material. Some will be to conventional repositories, others will be directly to data available on the Internet
Links Links to family sites with string links to Aldbourne. This is where to find other researchers who are interested in your families.

If you have any questions on Aldbourne Genealogy, or would like some help with researching your Family History, then please e-mail me at genealogy@aldbourne.org.uk and I will do what I can to help. I would also be delighted to receive anything relevant to Aldbourne's families that you might want to be published on this site.
