Brownies Plant Centenary Tree

• News listing

The First Aldbourne Brownies wrote to the Parish Council to ask permission to plant a tree to mark Girlguiding UK’s Centenary Celebrations. They received an email in reply which was then then followed up by letter to say that since a tree on the junction of Oxford Street & Lottage Road had been condemned by Wiltshire Council, the Parish Council had ordered a new one to replace it and would like to donate that tree to the 1st Aldbourne Brownies to celebrate our Centenary.

We of course were thrilled with this and then went about organising it for the morning of 7th February because the tree had arrived and Bob Copp had been commissioned by the Parish Council to dig the hole and assist with the planting.

We have purchased a plaque to be placed in front of the new Hawthorn tree to commemorate its planting for years to come.

The other tree on this bank was also planted by the 1st Aldbourne Brownies to celebrate the Millennium, however there is no plaque to commemorate that occasion.

With thanks to the Parish Council, and everyone who came along on the day to support us.
